Dibrugarh University was established in 1965 by the Assam Legislative Assembly. The University has an excellent connection with the industry and other global links that enable it to provide high-quality education and research programmes. Dibrugarh University has 177 affiliated colleges and institutes that are spread over nine districts of Assam.

Dibrugarh University is a member of the prestigious Association of Indian Universities and is recognised by all the universities in India and abroad. The University offers courses through various departments like Faculty of Humanities and Law, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Commerce and Management Science, and Faculty of Earth Sciences and Energy.

• Admissions to UG programmes are based on the rank secured in the merit list
• Admissions to PG programmes is based on the rank secured in the merit list
• Admission to BTech programme is based on the scores obtained in Common Entrance Exam (CEE) or scores obtained in JEE
• Admission to LLB and LLM is done based on an admission test conducted by the university, followed by Personal Interview
• Admission to B.Ed is based on the scores obtained in B.Ed-CET conducted by the university
• Admission to MBA is based on the scores obtained in MAT/CAT/CMAT or CMSDU test followed by GD and PI
• Admission to MTech is based on the scores obtained in GATE exam
• Admission to MPhil and PhD is based on the scores obtained in UGC-NET/JRF or DURAT, followed by the PI
