Aliah University was established in the year 1780. Aliah University is a state university that is under the Department of Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education, Government of West Bengal. Aliah University in its present form came into existence in the year 2007. 

Aliah University is also accredited by the NAAC(National Assessment and Accreditation Council) and is given an AA+ grade in engineering. Aliah University is a UGC, AICTE, and NCTE-approved autonomous institute. Aliah University is controlled by the state government and spans about 20 acres, with 200 faculty members supporting more than 5800 student enrollments. Aliah University offers B.Tech., BA, BCA, B. Ed, B. Sc., M. Tech., MBA, M. Sc., MA, MCA, and Ph.D. courses to interested candidates. Aliah University admission to the courses is based on merit basis except for B.Tech courses which require WBJEE exam scores. Aliah University plays a leading role in the advancement of higher education, especially for the Minorities who have, for various historical reasons, remained socially and educationally backwards.
