Deccan College of PostGraduate and Research Institute, Pune, better known as Deemed to be University, was established in the year 1990 at Yerawada, Pune. Affiliated to NAAC and approved by UGC, this institute specialises in Archaeology, Linguistics, and Sanskrit studies. The 115-acre campus offers 12 courses across 5 degrees and has a total of 288 students with 6 faculty members on the teaching staff. 

There are a host of facilities provided within the institute to buttress its academic activities. The library, a pivot of the institute, houses over 170,000 documents in specialised fields like Archaeology, Ancient Indian History, Linguistics, and Sanskrit. It is 42,000 sq. ft. in area and has large stack rooms, reading areas, and individual study rooms for researchers. The Department of Linguistics is establishing a modern Computational Linguistics lab for better practical learning. Deccan College of PostGraduate and Research Institute offers hostel facilities for the students with 54 beds for boys and 45 for girls. The campus also houses a gymkhana for extracurricular activities, sports facility including two grounds, a canteen and a health center with first aid facilities. An on campus branch of the Central Bank of India with ATM facility ensures easy access to banking services for the students.

Deccan College of Post-Graduate and Research Institute offers a total of 12 courses, including full-time MA, M.Phil, and Ph.D. programs and diploma and postgraduate diploma courses. It gives special importance to the specialised fields, particularly the research-based courses. They take in, on an average, 288 students at the intake level for all the courses combined, which shows well the commitment that the institute has toward maintaining a positive student-to-faculty ratio in order to give personal attention to each and every step of a student's learning process.

The test is equivalent for the admissions process in Ph.D. programs at Deccan College of Post-Graduate and Research Institute. Admissions may be channelled differently for each program. Students who have qualified for their GATE, NET, SET, or hold JRF in the relevant subject through the apex bodies like CSIR, UGC, ICAR, ICMR, and DBT shall be exempted from the entrance test. The Departmental Committee may, depending on the previous work in research or Ph.D. work, exempt some candidates. Scores obtained in such examinations as the GATE and SET are accepted by this institution.
