Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune was established in 2006 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (renamed Ministry of Education in August 2020). IISER Pune was declared as an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament in the year 2012. IISER Pune offers courses at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels.
IISER Pune offers BS-MS dual degree programme at UG level, Master of Science (MSc) programme at PG level and Integrated PhD (i-PhD) programme, PhD programme, Externally Funded PhD programme and International PhD programme at the doctoral level. IISER Pune admission to BS-MS programmes will be done based on the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT). For admission to MSc courses, candidates need to clear IIT-JAM. For PhD admission at IISER Pune, candidates must meet eligibility criteria, take a national-level test, and pass an interview. Admission to Integrated PhD (i-PhD) programme, JGEEBILS/ JEST/ JAM/ NBHM followed by interviews.
According to the NIRF Report 2024, 14 UG students were placed with a median salary package of Rs. 8,30,800 respectively. As per the NIRF Rankings 2023, IISER Pune has been ranked 34th position in the Overall category and ranked 27th position in the Research category. BS and MS Chemistry Dual Degree

MS PhD Biology Integrated
Students with minimum 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage; not only in majoring subject) or an equivalent C.G.P.A on a 10-point scale (55% or an equivalent C.G.P.A in aggregate for SC, ST and PwBD candidates) in any Bachelor’s degree in related branches satisfying the above criteria of marks can apply.
MS PhD Mathematics Integrated
Students with minimum 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage; not only in majoring subject) or an equivalent C.G.P.A on a 10-point scale (55% or an equivalent C.G.P.A in aggregate for SC, ST and PwBD candidates) in any Bachelor’s degree in related branches satisfying the above criteria of marks can apply.
Additionally, the candidate MUST satisfy any ONE of the following criteria:
- Appeared for NBHM Master’s scholarship written exam in 2024 and was shortlisted in NBHM Master’s Interview Shortlist (MIS).
- Appeared for the JAM 2024 exam in MA or MS only.

For all the national eligibility examinations which provide a common rank / score, the cut-off rank / score for shortlisting for the Interviews for the reserved categories shall be lowered to 1.25 times the General category rank / score.

Ph.D Biology
Masters' (or B.E., B.Tech., M.Tech., MBBS) degree holders in any branch of science including physics, chemistry, mathematics, biological sciences, ecology and environmental sciences, biodiversity, psychology or equivalent. Applicants must have a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage and not just in majoring subject) or an equivalent CGPA in the General /OBC/EWS category or minimum 55% marks in aggregate (overall percentage and not just in majoring subject) or an equivalent CGPA in the SC,ST or PwD category.
If a candidate has successfully completed a 4-year bachelor's degree (e.g., BS, B.Tech), it is appropriate to indicate 'Not Applicable' in the Masters field, denoting that the candidate has not pursued a master's degree.
Students whose final results in Masters or equivalent are yet to be declared can also apply. However, if selected, the offer for these students will be provisional, subject to their fulfilling the above criteria.
Ph.D Chemistry
Minimum 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage; not only in the majoring subject) or an equivalent C.G.P.A on 10-point scale (55% or an equivalent C.G.P.A in aggregate for SC, ST and Specially abled candidates PwD/VH) in Masters' Degree in any branch of Science: Chemistry/ Physics/ Mathematics/ Biology or equivalent. Candidates with Integrated BS-MS degree/ B.E./ B. Tech./ B. Pharm./ ME/ M. Tech./ M. Pharm. degree satisfying the above criteria of marks can also apply.
If a candidate has successfully completed a 4-year bachelor's degree (e.g., BS, B.Tech), it is appropriate to indicate 'Not Applicable' in the Masters field, denoting that the candidate has not pursued a master's degree.
Students whose final results in Master's or equivalent are yet to be declared can also apply. However, if selected, the offer for these students will be provisional, subject to their fulfilling the above criteria at the time of admission.
MS PhD Physics Integrated
The candidate should have a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage; not only in the majoring subject) or a CGPA of 6 on a 10 point scale (55% or equivalent CGPA in aggregate for SC, ST and PwD/VH candidates) in BSc/BTech/BE,
and
the candidate should have a rank equal to 500 or better (625 or better for candidates in the reserved categories) in JAM (Physics) or JEST IPhD (Physics). The rank should be valid at the time of admission in August 2024.
(Students currently in the final year of their BSc/BTech/BE programs are welcome to apply. If the candidate is shortlisted after the final interviews a provisional admission will be offered. The final admission is subject to the condition that all of the above eligibility criteria are satisfied.)
Ph.D Earth and Climate Science
Students with minimum 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage; not only in majoring subject) or a CGPA 6 out of 10 point scale (55% in aggregate or equivalent CGPA for SC/ST and PD candidates) in Master’s (or BS-MS) degree in Geology/ Applied Geology/Physics/Mathematics/Atmospheric Science/Climate Science/Engineering/Biology/Environmental Science, or related subjects. BE/BTech students may also apply.
If a candidate has successfully completed a 4-year bachelor's degree (e.g., BS, B.Tech), it is appropriate to indicate 'Not Applicable' in the Masters field, denoting that the candidate has not pursued a master's degree.
