One of the most famous State Universities, Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya was established in the year 1956 at Khairagarh, Chhattisgarh. The forte is performing and visual arts with the NAAC accreditation and the UGC approval. It has a total student enrollment of 2,128 at an expansive campus of 21.57 acres. It offers 76 courses under 11 different degrees with 23% undergraduate students and 77% postgraduate students. The male and female sex ratio of the university is found to be 42% males and 58% females. IKSV has 41 faculty members to educate in some forms of arts including music, dance, and fine arts.

Further, the university is also facilitated with 3 guest houses with a total of 14 rooms for visiting guests.

Iksv is conducting a large number of performing and visual fine art-based courses. It conducts courses in 76 undergraduate, postgraduate, and diploma courses. Under all these courses, it imparts learning in music, both vocal and instrumental, dance, in which it includes Kathak, Bharatnatyam, and Odissi, fine arts, under which come painting, sculpture, and graphics, and theatre. The uniqueness of the university's offered programmes is that it also offers M.Phil in various musical instruments and diplomas in specialized areas like Art Appreciation and Functional Sanskrit.

Admission at IKSV is mainly on merit. Requirements may vary from programme to programme. Generally, performance in previous qualifying examinations will be considered for selection of candidates.
