NIPER Hajipur was established in 2007 and is an autonomous university founded under the NIPER Act 1998. NIPER Hajipur is managed by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, Government of India and is recognised as an "Institute of National Importance".

A candidate must have passed in B.Pharm degree with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate or CGPA of 6.75 on a 10 point scale wherever grades are awarded or equivalent from any recognized University.
Relaxation in CGPA to 6.25 on a 10‐point scale or in marks to 55% or equivalent in the eligibility criteria are allowed to SC and ST candidates.
Physically handicapped (PH) candidates are permitted relaxation in eligibility requirement of CGPA to 5.75 on a 10‐point scale or to 50% marks or equivalent. No other relaxation beyond this will be allowed even if they belong to SC/ST category.

Candidates who have cleared the M.Phil. course work with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and successfully completing the M.Phil. Degree shall be eligible to proceed to do research work leading to the Ph. D. Degree in the same Institution in an integrated programme. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC(non-creamy layer)/differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
