Established in 1999, National Law Institute University Bhopal was founded by Rashtriya Vidhi Sansthan Vishwavidyalaya Adhiniyam. NLIU Bhopal was recognised as an "Institute of National Importance". Courses at NLIU Bhopal include BA LLB, B.Sc LLB, LLM and Ph.D programmes.
Candidates seeking admission to NLIU Bhopal must meet the eligibility criteria and appear for the entrance examination. Admissions to NLIU Bhopal BA LLB and LLM programme is done on the basis of CLAT and CLAT-PG marks. Both the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Bar Council of India (BCI) have recognised NLIU Bhopal.
Students at NLIU Bhopal are eligible for Merit-Cum-Means scholarships as well as those offered by the UGC and the federal government. Apart from this, NLIU Bhopal has a Placement Coordination Committee (PCC) to assist the placement of final-year candidates. NLIU Bhopal also offers a large variety of facilities to its students.

For admission to NLIU Bhopal candidates must meet the CLAT cutoff as released by the consortium of CLAT. The 1st round opening rank for BA LLB Hons programme was 311, while for the B.Sc LLB Hons programme was 335. The last rank required for BA LLB and B.Sc LLB programme was 450 and 1047 respectively.

BA LLB Hons
- There will be no upper age limit for UG Programme in CLAT.
- As regards minimum percentage of marks in the qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2 or an equivalent examination), the candidates must have secured:
- Forty five percent (45%) marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to General / OBC / PWD / NRI / PIO / OCI categories
- Forty Percent (40%) marks or equivalent in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.
- Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination in March/April, are also eligible to appear in CLAT examination. However, they shall be required to produce an evidence of their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission, failing which they shall lose their right to be considered for admission.
- The result of the qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2) shall be submitted by the candidate at the time of admission failing which the candidate shall be ineligible for admission to the Course.
- In case of equal marks, the break of tie shall be by the following procedure and order as under:
- Higher marks in the component / section on legal aptitude in the CLAT exam;
- Higher age;
- Computerised draw of lots.
LLM Intellectual Property and Business Law
- An LL.B Degree or an equivalent examination with a minimum of Fifty percent (50%) of marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories and Forty-Five percent (45%) of marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.
- Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination in April/May are also eligible to apply.
- No upper age limit is prescribed for appearing in CLAT.
LLM Human Rights and Criminal Law
- An LL.B Degree or an equivalent examination with a minimum of Fifty percent (50%) of marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories and Forty-Five percent (45%) of marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.
- Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination in April/May are also eligible to apply.
- No upper age limit is prescribed for appearing in CLAT.
LLM Constitutional and Administrative Law
- An LL.B Degree or an equivalent examination with a minimum of Fifty percent (50%) of marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories and Forty-Five percent (45%) of marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.
- Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination in April/May are also eligible to apply.
- No upper age limit is prescribed for appearing in CLAT.
Master of Cyber Law and Information Security
- He/she has not obtained a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized University.
- He/she has not obtained at least 50% of marks in aggregate or equivalent grade in bachelor’s degree examination.
- He/she has not qualified the entrance test conducted by the NLIU for admission to MCLIS course (‘Entrance Test’ means All India Written Test and Personal Interview).
- Students whose results are awaited may also apply subject to the condition that by the time of Personal Interview/admission to the Course, the candidates should be able to produce marks sheet/pass certificate of the qualifying examination.
Ph.D Law
A candidate must have passed the Master Degree in Law (LL.M) Degree with at least 55% Marks in the aggregate and 50% Marks in the aggregate for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PWD candidates from any recognized university.
Ph.D Cyber Law and Information Security
A candidate must have passed the LLM/MCLIS/.S. or M.Sc (IT or Cyber Security/Cyber Forensic)/M.Tech (CSE/IT/Cyber Security/Cyber Forensic) or equivalent Degree with 55% Marks or equivalent grade in the aggregate for General candidates and 50% Marks in the aggregate for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PWD candidates.
B.Sc LLB Hons Cyber Security
Intermediate/Higher Secondary Board Exam (10+2) in science stream or its equivalent.
