Seacom Skills University was established in 2014 in accordance with the policies of the West Bengal Government. The university is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI). It offers 91 courses in various disciplines to eligible students. SSU Birbhum allows admission on a merit basis and through JEE Main/WBJEE/WBJELET entrance exams. The University provides a range of facilities to the students ranging from library, department-based laboratories, IT infrastructure to separate hostels, sports facilities, a cafeteria, and other facilities. 

In addition to this, Seacom Skills University (SSU) Birbhum also has a placement cell to assist students with the placement process. The university has collaboration with top-notch companies, which include - Indiamart, Maruti Suzuki, PNB Metlife, Amazon, MedPlus, Byju's, and many others.

It is situated on the Bolpur–suri state highway, offering significant advantages in terms of inter-state and intra-state connectivity via rail, road, and air transportation. The campus is situated 12 km from the nearest railway station, Bolpur – Santiniketan. Additionally, the closest airport, Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport, is situated in Andal, West Bardhhaman, approximately 72 km from the SSU Birbhum campus.
