Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences was established in 1986. SVIMS Tirupati was established as a university under the UGC Act of 1995. The Medical Council of India (MCI) has approved SVIMS Tirupati for running various D.M, M.Ch, and M.D programmes since 2003. Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences has been recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC). 

The Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences Tirupati is placed 38th in the medical category in the NIRF 2020 ranking. The campus area of SVIMS Tirupati is 107.04 acres. To serve the underprivileged and needy patients, SVIMS Tirupati has well-trained faculty. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and doctoral programmes. Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences offers 60 courses in various streams such as Medicine and Allied Sciences, Sciences, Management and Business Administration, and Pharmacy are available at SVIMS Tirupati. Diploma, B.Sc., B.P.T., M.S., M.D., D.M., M.Ch., M.P.T., M.B.B.S., and Ph.D. are among the full-time courses offered by Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences. 

Admissions are offered to a total of 60 diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate programmes at the institute. Admission to SVIMS Tirupati's B.Sc, B.P.T, and diploma programmes is based on the merit of an interview followed by a counselling process. M.D. admissions at SVIMS Tirupati are based on NEET PG scores, whereas D.M. and M.Ch. admissions are based on NEET SS scores. Candidates must apply for and attend the All India level counselling. Students can also apply to the institute for M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes based on their performance in a written exam and an interview. The SVIMS Tirupati has a placement cell that provides various training sessions and placement support to the students.
