AcSIR Chennai is another name of Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research that was founded in 2010. This academy which is established in Chennai, the cultural capital of Tamil Nadu, is committed to encourage scientific and technological advancement. Total enrolment of students in AcSIR is 4879 and the total number of faculites is 1625 and it offers course in many discipline fields. Currently, the academy is delivering 7 courses in 3 degree programmes focuses on key advanced scientific and engineering fields. Being conscious of this, AcSIR has shown unparalleled determination in striving to be the best Academic institution promoting Research to the prospective Researcher and Innovators.
The CU-Shale campus of Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research, Chennai is well furnished with all the modern infrastructural facilities as required for any academic and research institution. Hostel facilities are available for both male and female student to get proper accommodation while in the campus. They also asserted that the provision of learning resources which include books is very essential as they act as a source of knowledge and that a well stocked library is always important because it acts as a store of knowledge while the provision of it infrastructure to facilitate the connectivity of the learner to the world of technological advancement is very important.
It also pays a lot of attention on the student welfare with a health centre, that has facilities for first aid. In nucleation with the physical needs of students, AcSIR has provisions for sports and has an auditorium for cultural and academic activities. Having an active alumni association always increase networking avenues for the current students as well.
The academy has a number of full time programmes among which dominate doctorate and integrated ones. There are 5 courses offered and the students can do Ph.D in Engineering and Science or Integrated M.Tech-Ph.D in Engineering, M.Sc-Ph.D in Clinical Research and M. Sc-Ph.D in Health Informatics. These programmes are meant to develop the research ability and give focused information on the selected disciplines. The integrated programmes, which take five years, present the continuity of research education from the Master’s to the Doctoral levels.

Admissions at AcSIR are competitive and are predicated on merit, thus enabling the Institute admit only the right kind of students. In the case of Ph.D. programmes , candidates may indicate up to three CSIR Labs which are AcSIR centrea . But the last step involves the merit, performance and the available vacancies. The shortlisted applicants are allowed for interviews at centres of their choice. The integrated M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes in the specialty have a rigorous and standardized Admission Review Process that entails assessment of the following: Following the Admission Review Process, the candidate will be short listed and interviewed. The weightage for these components varies widely in which qualifications may constitute 30% of total weightage, experience 30% of total weightage, statement of purpose 10% weightage, and interview 30% weightage. Ph.D Engineering
PhD in Engineering-
(i) A Master’s degree in Engineering or Technology following a four-year engineering/technology or 4/5 year science degree; or an integrated minimum-5-year M Tech degree; or equivalent.
AND
(ii) At least one of the following
(a) Awarded a national-level fellowship (such as NET JRF) tenable at CSIR institutes
(b) Meeting all the conditions required for eligibility for the CSIR-SRF
(c) Meeting all the conditions for the award of the INSPIRE fellowship (typically awarded to students ranked first in the University)
(d) Meeting all the conditions stipulated by AcSIR for Project Assistants to register for a PhD
(e) Meeting all the conditions stipulated by AcSIR for industry-sponsored* students.
Integrated Dual-Degree PhD (IDDP) Program-
(i) A 4-year undergraduate degree in Engineering or Science (such as BE/BTech/BS), or a five-year degree in Science (such as MSc), or equivalent. AND
(ii) At least one of the following
(a) Awarded a national-level fellowship (such as NET JRF) tenable at CSIR institutes
(b) Meeting all the conditions required for eligibility for the CSIR-GATE-JRF
(c) Meeting all the conditions for the award of the INSPIRE fellowship (typically awarded to students ranked first in the University)
(d) Meeting all the conditions stipulated by AcSIR for Project Assistants to register for a PhD
(e) Meeting all the conditions stipulated by AcSIR for industry-sponsored* students.
* with an endorsement from Industry, Academic or Research Institutes for required academic leave and financial support during the program. These are only minimum quality yardsticks of eligibility for consideration for admission and bear no relationship with financial assistance or scholarship. Any stipend, scholarship or financial source for study would be the sole responsibility of the student. AcSIR itself does not provide any such scholarship or have any rule in these matters
Candidates whose final results are awaited, but who are otherwise eligible as per the screening criteria, can also apply. If selected, they will be provisionally admitted to the program. Their continuation in the program will be subject to securing required percentage/ equivalent grade (depending on the cut-off marks for screening for the specific program) and submission of marks-sheet of their final result at the time of joining the program.
M.Tech and Ph.D Engineering Integrated
(i) A 4-year undergraduate degree in Engineering or Science (such as BE/BTech/BS), or a five year degree in Science (such as MSc), or equivalent.
AND
(ii) At least one of the following
(a) Awarded a national-level fellowship (such as NET JRF) tenable at CSIR institutes

Ph.D Science
PhD in Sciences-
Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology, Medicine or Master's degree in Science with a keen sense of scientific enquiry for pursuing advanced research in frontier areas of Biological, Chemical, Physical and Mathematical & Information Sciences. The candidate should have a valid National level fellowship (JRF/ SRF) from any of the various funding agencies such as CSIR, UGC, DBT, DST etc.), INSPIRE or other equivalent fellowships.
Direct PhD in Sciences-
Undergraduate degree in Science or allied subjects with at least 8.5 and/or 1st rank holder in University/ Institution. Possible funding sources for students are INSPIRE, CSIR-JRF, CSIR-UGC-NET or other equivalent national fellowships.
Sponsored PhD (Sciences)-
Regular: Master’s degree in Science Direct: Undergraduate degree in Science or allied subjects with at least 8.5 and/or 1strank holder in University/ Institution with an endorsement from Industry, Academic or Research Institutes for required academic leave and financial support during the program. M.Sc and Ph.D Clinical Research Integrated
Applicants with graduate qualifications in: medical and allied fields like dentistry, AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy), pharmacy, physiotherapy, nursing and veterinary science.
Applicants with graduate qualifications in: biological and life sciences (microbiology, biochemistry, biotechnology, botany, zoology), basic sciences (chemistry), occupational therapy and bio-statistics.
M.Sc and Ph.D Health Informatics Integrated
Bachelor’s degree, in any science discipline under the 10+2+3 system. Preference will be given to candidates with working experience in health care and information technology.
