Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute when established in 1972 is one of the elite parts among all the colleges of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University located at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The institution ideally located on a total land of 274.43acres of land is one of the oldest and leading educational institution in the field of agricultural engineering in India. It is the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) affiliated institute that offers a variety of programmes at Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate levels. Total student enrolment is 391 with a faculty of 39 and this has made AEC&RI to achieve maximum results in its fields of speciality, which is agricultural engineering.
Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute has well equipped facilities within the college to provide the students an excellent learning environment. Facilities include functional laboratory facilities for practical trainings, a library for research and studies and functional information technology facilities to meet the relevant modern development. To support student welfare, the institute features; hostel facilities for boys and girls encouraging suitable living conditions. The college also provides a health centre with first aid facilities, a gym for exercising, other amenities for the sporting needs of the students. Besides, it has accommodation facilities for perusing faculty and their families, and enables adequate parking space for the students and all other staff in the institution.
The institute currently has a total of twelve courses offered at three levels of study, with options within the field of agricultural engineering. The number of students admitted to the new B.Tech programmes are 60; and in each of the programmes, there are two – Energy Engineering and Food Technology. At post graduate level, the AEC&RI has several M.Tech degree programme in Agricultural Engineering, Processing and Food Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Farm Machinery & Power Engineering and Soil & Water conservation Engineering. Offering postgraduate sciences for the aspiring scholars, it offers Ph.D. degrees in Food Process Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, Soil and Water Conservation Engineering. These programmes are normally intended to be taken on a full time basis to allow effective studying in the chosen fields.

The entry procedure at AEC&RI is meant to identify those candidates who have the potential for success in different programmes offered by the institution. B.Tech programmes are offered admission from TNEA list which is merit list based on their group I and group II examination conducted for 12th standard board examinations.

B.Tech Energy Engineering
The Candidate Should have passed the 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Technical Vocational subjects/ Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Informatics Practices/ Agriculture/ Engineering Graphics/ Business Studies. Obtained at least 45% marks (40% marks in case of candidates belonging to a reserved category) in the above subjects. OR Passed Diploma (in Engineering and Technology) examination with at least 45% marks (40% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) subject to vacancies in the First Year, in case the vacancies at lateral entry are exhausted.
B.Tech Food Technology
The Candidate Should have Passed the 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Technical Vocational subject/ Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Informatics Practices/ Agriculture/ Engineering Graphics/ Business Studies. Passed Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in the relevant field. Obtained at least 50% marks (45% marks in case of candidates belonging to the reserved category) in the qualifying Examination.
M.Tech Processing and Food Engineering
Passed Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in the relevant field. Obtained at least 50% marks (45% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying Examination.
M.Tech Renewable Energy Engineering
Passed Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in the relevant field. Obtained at least 50% marks (45% marks in case of candidates belonging to the reserved category) in the qualifying Examination.
M.Tech Farm Machinery and Power Engineering
Passed Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in the relevant field. Obtained at least 50% marks (45% marks in case of candidates belonging to the reserved category) in the qualifying Examination.
M.Tech Soil and Water Conservation Engineering
Passed Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in the relevant field. Obtained at least 50% marks (45% marks in case of candidates belonging to the reserved category) in the qualifying Examination.
Ph.D Food Process Engineering
Master’s Degree holders satisfying the criteria stipulated under Clause 2 above.
Candidates who have cleared the M.Phil. course work with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever the grading system is followed) and successfully completing the M.Phil. Degree shall be eligible to proceed to do research work leading to the Ph. D. Degree in the same Institution in an integrated program. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC(non-creamy layer)/differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
A person whose M.Phil. dissertation has been evaluated and the viva voce is pending may be admitted to the Ph.D. program of the same Institution.
Candidates possessing a Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized, or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. program.
Ph.D Renewable Energy Engineering
Master’s Degree holders satisfying the criteria stipulated under Clause 2 above.
