The Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu, (GCET Jammu) established in 1993, is a government co-educational college accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. GCET Jammu is affiliated with the University of Jammu and offers BE and M.Tech programmes in various fields.
Government College of Engineering and Technology Jammu provides admission opportunities for both undergraduate and postgraduate level courses. Aspiring students seeking GCET Jammu for BE admission are required to participate in an entrance examination administered by the government of Jammu and Kashmir. On the other hand, GCET Jammu M.Tech admission is based on the scores obtained in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) examination.
Facilities in GCET Jammu includes a library, separate hostels for male and female students, laboratories, medical facilities, and sports amenities. Admission to the Ist Semester of 4 year B.E Degree Course shall open to such candidates as have passed 12 years examination under 10+2 Scheme with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (Science Group) from J&K Board of School Education or any other examination conducted by a University/State Board of Secondary Education recognized as equivalent thereto with not less than 50% marks in aggregate in the qualifying examination in respect of open category and 40% marks in aggregate in respect of SC/ST categories.
BE Civil Engineering
Admission to the Ist Semester of 4 year B.E Degree Course shall open to such candidates as have passed 12 years examination under 10+2 Scheme with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (Science Group) from J&K Board of School Education or any other examination conducted by a University/State Board of Secondary Education recognized as equivalent thereto with not less than 50% marks in aggregate in the qualifying examination in respect of open category and 40% marks in aggregate in respect of SC/ST categories.
BE Mechanical Engineering
Admission to the Ist Semester of 4 year B.E Degree Course shall open to such candidates as have passed 12 years examination under 10+2 Scheme with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (Science Group) from J&K Board of School Education or any other examination conducted by a University/State Board of Secondary Education recognized as equivalent thereto with not less than 50% marks in aggregate in the qualifying examination in respect of open category and 40% marks in aggregate in respect of SC/ST categories.
M.Tech Computer Science and Engineering
- The candidate applying for admission to M.Tech programme must be either:
i)B.E/B.Tech (in relevant branch of engineering and technology) with 50% of the marks or equivalent CGPA.
ii)MCA/M.Sc (Computer Science/IT/Electronics/Mathematics/Statistics/Physics) in case of M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and allied domains, with 50% of the marks or equivalent CGPA. All the above-mentioned degrees should be from Colleges/Universities recognized by UGC/AICTE. A relaxation of 5% in marks in the qualifying examination shall be given to the candidates belonging to the categories of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) as mentioned in Statute-5. This relaxation shall not be applicable to private affiliated colleges.
- All the candidates seeking admission to M.Tech should have a valid GATE score. The GATE score of three years will be valid. The admission shall be strictly based on the score obtained in GATE.
- In the absence of having adequate number of candidates with valid GATE score, the University of Jammu shall conduct its own written/online test for admission to the said programme. Admission shall be based strictly on the merit obtained in the entrance test.
- In case two or more candidates score the same score in written entrance test, their inter-se-merit shall be determined on the basis of percentage of marks in the qualifying examination. In case of a tie even at the qualifying examination, the decision for admission shall be taken by the admission committee headed by Dean Engineering, University of Jammu on the basis of other academic credentials. The decision of the committee shall be final and binding on the candidate.
- A candidate appearing in the final year of the qualifying examination in April/May of immediately preceding academic session can also apply for admission to M.Tech only if he/she furnishes documentary evidence in support of his/her having passed the qualifying examination in full on or before 31 st of July, or such other date as may be approved by the Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu; failing which his/her candidature shall automatically stand cancelled and the seat thus becoming available shall be filled in accordance with the merit.
- The candidate should be a Domicile of J&K UT.
M.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering

Passed Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in the relevant field. Obtained at least 50% marks (45% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying Examination.
