Government Medical College Kozhikode was established in the year 1957 under the Government of India, by Dr. B. Ramarkrishna Rao, then Governor of Kerala. The college campus is spread over an area of 270 acres. The college was earlier affiliated to the University of Calicut, but now the affiliation has changed to the Kerala University for Health Sciences (KUHS). All the programmes of the institute are approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
The main hospital was initially started with 1183 beds, which now has increased to a strength of 3025 beds. The institute started functioning with an intake of 50 students, which has now increased to 250 students. The college offers admission to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes based on NEET (UG) and NEET (PG) scores respectively.

Government Medical College Kozhikode is located in Medical College Junction, Kerala. The nearest airport from the institute is the Kozhikode International Airport which is located 26.4 km away and students can reach the campus in approximately 45 mins. Kozhikode Railway Station is approximately 8 km away from the institute and students can reach the campus in about 21 mins. Students can also get down at Medical College Bus Stop which is 850 meters away and students can reach the campus in about 2 mins.

MBBS
No Candidate shall be allowed to be admitted to the Medical Curriculum of first Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) Course until:
1. He/she shall complete the age of 17 years on or before 31st December, of the year of admission to the MBBS course.
2. The higher secondary examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics or any other elective subjects with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council for Educational Research and Training after the introduction of the 10+2+3 years educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on education.
OR
3. The intermediate examination in science of an Indian University/Board or other recognized examining the body with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology which shall include a practical test in these subjects and also English as a compulsory subject.
OR
4. The pre-professional/pre-medical examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, after passing either the higher secondary school examination or the pre-university or an equivalent examination. The pre-professional/pre-medical examination shall include a practical test in Physics, Chemistry and Biology and also English as a compulsory subject
OR
5. The first year of the three years degree course of a recognized university, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology including a practical test in three subjects provided the examination is a 'University Examination' and candidate has passed 10+2 with English at a level not less than a core course.
OR
6. B.Sc examination of an Indian University provided that he/she has passed the B.Sc examination with not less than two of the following subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology) and further that he/she has passed the earlier qualifying examination with the following subjects-Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
OR
7. Any other examination which, in scope and standard is found to be equivalent to the intermediate science examination of an Indian University/Board, taking Physics, Chemistry, and Biology including practical test in each of these subjects and English.
MD Anaesthesiology
A candidate who has selected for admission to a postgraduate degree shall possess MBBS degree or equivalent qualifications as specified by the National Medical Commission.
MD General Medicine
A candidate who has selected for admission to a postgraduate degree shall possess MBBS degree or equivalent qualifications as specified by the National Medical Commission.
MD Pathology
A candidate who has selected for admission to a postgraduate degree shall possess MBBS degree or equivalent qualifications as specified by the National Medical Commission.
MD Biochemistry
A candidate who has selected for admission to a postgraduate degree shall possess MBBS degree or equivalent qualifications as specified by the National Medical Commission.
MD Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology
A candidate who has selected for admission to a postgraduate degree shall possess MBBS degree or equivalent qualifications as specified by the National Medical Commission.
MD Microbiology
A candidate who has selected for admission to a postgraduate degree shall possess MBBS degree or equivalent qualifications as specified by the National Medical Commission.
MD Pharmacology
A candidate who has selected for admission to a postgraduate degree shall possess MBBS degree or equivalent qualifications as specified by the National Medical Commission.
MD Physiology
A candidate who has selected for admission to a postgraduate degree shall possess MBBS degree or equivalent qualifications as specified by the National Medical Commission.
MD Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
A candidate who has selected for admission to a postgraduate degree shall possess MBBS degree or equivalent qualifications as specified by the National Medical Commission.
