Jammu Institute of Ayurveda and Research (JIAR), was started in the year 1999 is one of the well-known college imparting education in Ayurveda. Kendeda College of Education for Women is situated at Bantalab, Jammu and its a co-educational institute under the affiliation of Central Council for Indian Medicine (CCIM). JIAR occupies a 2:29-acre land, and this has layout of a conducive learning and research institute in the Ayurveda field. Facilitating a total students strength of 354 and a faculty of 43, the institute provides attention and quality education to the students. This university is providing 4 courses in three degrees of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery and other two degrees.
This institute has various facilities that can help students in their academic facility as well as personal development. The well stocked library acts as the knowledge center having conservative collection of Ayurvedic books and research journals. Up-to-date laboratories give practical experience in different forms of Ayurvedic system of medication. JIAR also has hostel for boys and girls and also has internal and external games for students to play. The complex also boasts of an auditorium for meetings, seminars, etc, canteen to offer the students and staffs snacks and a clinic with first aide kits. For their physical health, the students can gym that is available on the campus as well as other sports codes.
JIAR has a cacilitating facility in providing Ayurvedic courses for the undergraduate and postgraduate students. Currently, the institute offers 4 full-time courses – the flagship program BAMS and 3 post graduate programs. The total seats approved for all the courses are 75, the institute believes and maintains low density classroom standards for quality education.
JIAR also has very strict procedures concerning the enrollment of students, which are mainly based on the merit. For the BAMS program, candidates have to clear the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). For the MD and MS courses, the candidates are expected to secure 50 percentile and above in the AIAPGET exam. These entrance examinations help to guarantee only the best and determined students into the various programs offered at the institute.
