KC Law College, which is recognized affiliated college of Jammu University, Jammu, has been established in the year 2003 and is located in the thick populated urban area of Jammu city catering the need of legal Education of Jammu and Kashmir. This school is situated at K.C. Educational Complex, Akhnoor Road, Muthi and the area of this institution is 13.25 acres. The BCI-approved, KC Law College offers two course streams that for a total of 412 students. This college has a total of 16 members in the faculty, which makes the institutions capable of providing its students with the much needed one-on-one with the teachers as well as quality education. As a result of its focus on legal education, KC Law College occupies a significant place for learning law among young lawyers in the region.
The college boast of several facilities that helps enrich the learning process of the students. The library is unique; it has the large numbers of law reports, journals and reference books in which many of them are prescribed by the Bar Council of India. In order to set the pace with the advances in the current society KC Law College has put in place a modern computer laboratory with integration of broadband internet connection. It not only helps the students toward the mastery of the skills on computers but also teaches the students how best to search for legal information over the internet. Another real life experience based demonstration of learning is through moot court which the college has established to offer real experience in the courts. For the extra curricular activities and occasions, the college provides a auditorium and sports area. The youngsters are given prime consideration with a consideration of setting up a Cafeteria, a Health Centre with first aid facilities and separate hostel accommodation for boys and girls out-station students.
KC Law College currently offers two full-time law programmes: a 3 year programme of LLB and a 5 year integrated course of BA LLB. Currently, there is approved capacity intakes of 80 seats in each programme which translates to 160 seats per year. These courses are intended to give the legal education together with legal theory knowledge that is crucial for effective practice as a legal person. Current organisation of two basic programmes in the college enables a focused and intensive approach to developments in law to meet educational needs of the diversified student populations and occupational goals.
It is however important to note that KC Law College admits students in a fair and a merit basis. For the 3-year LLB course, the candidate should have passed the bachelor’s degree in any field from a recognized university with not less than 45% marks in aggregate for the candidates belonging to General category; and 40% for SC/ST candidates. The 5-year BA LLB program of Jammu campus enrolls students who have passed the 10+2 examination and who secure a good rank in the Jammu University Entrance Test (JUET). As for the OM seats and some of the reserved categories, admission depends on both the qualifying examination and JUET results.
The college also follows the University of Jammu reservation polices as applicable to certain categories. LLB
For admission to LL.B. 3-Year Professional Degree Course, firstly a candidate to be eligible shall have passed Bachelor’s Degree examination in any discipline/stream of the University of Jammu or any other University recognized as equivalent thereto with atleast 45% of the aggregate marks (40% for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates).
BA LLB
For admission to 5-Year Degree of Bachelor of Laws, firstly a candidate must have passed 10+2 examination in any discipline from J&K State Board of School Education or an examination of any other Board/University recognized as equivalent thereto with atleast 45% of aggregate marks (40% marks in the case of Scheduled Caste/Schedule Tribe candidates). Secondly, the candidate should be less than 21 years of age in case of General category (open seats) and 22 years of age in case of Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe / other Backward candidates.
