Loreto College is a women’s college established in 1912. Loreto College is affiliated to the University of Calcutta and recognised by the University Grants Commission. Loreto College was the first college in West Bengal to be assessed by NAAC. Loreto College was ranked 75th in the college category by the NIRF, Ministry of Human Resource Development Govt of India in 2020. Presently, there are around 1000 students in Loreto College, Kolkata.
Loreto College is spread over an area of 3 acres. The College has a self-financing Computer Centre and it aims to generate computer literacy and skill in all students. The Loreto College library is digitised and computerized and has a huge collection of academic books and journals. An internet facility is available for both students and staff members of the college. There are several extracurricular activities nurtured by Loreto College, through several societies like Dramatics, Debating, Literary and Leadership, and training society. A women’s cell in the college was formed in 1996 and the motive of the women’s cell is to provide literacy programs to disadvantaged young women there in the college. Loreto College also hosts an annual inter-collegiate fest known as ‘SAMAGAM’.

The B.Ed department of Loreto College was founded in 1913, is recognised by the NCTE, and was awarded the ‘B++’ grade by NAAC in 2003.

- Loreto College, Kolkata was the first college in West Bengal to be accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Later, the college was re-accredited by NAAC in December 2006 and was awarded an A grade. Again in 2012 Loreto College had the 3rd cycle of re-accreditation by NAAC in which the college was awarded an A grade. In 2006 and 2011 the UGC recognised Loreto College as a college with Potential for Excellence.

The Loreto College Alumni Association (LCAA) was registered as a society in 2000 to consolidate the contribution of former students and nurture the bond between Loreto College and its alumni. Loreto College is well equipped with facilities and infrastructure and ensures the overall development of the students. Loreto College is affiliated to the University of Calcutta and offers admissions to different UG level courses through merit.
