Mahant Bachittar Singh College of Engineering and Technology (MBSCET), an affiliated college with Jammu University, Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir came into existence in the year 1999. It is a co-educational institution accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education and engulfs an area of 31 acres of land of the Karnataka state The institute offers different types of engineering courses. The number strength of MBSCET is 735 students and a faculty of 46 which helps for the technical education. The college has 10 programmes taught at 2 levels of a degree and focuses on subjects like engineering and technology – Computer Science and IT, Electronics and Communication, Electrical, Mechanical and Civil.
Mahant Bachittar Singh College of Engineering and Technology has many jewel of its crown that provide strength to its academic activities in all fields. The college library is also another important physical facility for students, in addition to special group laboratories that are provided for different departments. In this regard, hostel section is provided with necessary accommodation for both boys and girls for students who wants to apply. It also has its sports complex to ensure that their students get adequate time for sports as they exercise their right to education. An auditorium accommodates several functions and seminars in addition to enhancing educational development outside a classroom. The college cafeteria provides the opportunities for students and staff to take a rest and have a snack. Most of the schools have greatly embraced the new trends of education, and this is in line with what is at MBSCET, based on its strong IT support. Also the campus features guest house for guests of teaching faculties and families, a health centre with an aids section and a dynamic alumni base always in support of the current learners and recent graduates.
The institute was responsible for the complete range of engineering courses like BE and ME along with PG courses. All programmes are designed as full-time ones, and the primary emphasis is made on the formation of the detailed acquaintance with the necessary materials and skills in the engineering speciality. Currently the college floats six BE programmes and four ME programmes that are suitable with a range of specialisations in the field of engineering. The total approved intake for all the courses offered in the institute is 735, which testifies the institute’s capability to produce a large number of engineering students every year.
The admission in the MBSCET is mostly centralised depending on the performance in the MBS Minority Seats Entrance Test for admission in under graduate programmes. The entrance test works as a strong deciding factor for admission in different BE courses in the college. As for the admission requirements of postgraduate programmes, despite that there are no detailed procedures set up, those programmes usually require candidates’ performance in prior undergraduate degrees and, if any, entrance exam results. Its admission policy also shows that the college has the policy of admitting talented students who want to pursue a course in engineering. Self-funding students should also follow the college website for further changes in admissions time and details as these may be effected seasonally to correspond with academic calendar year and regulation.
