MES College of Arts and Commerce of Zuarinagar in Goa was set up in 1972 and is one of the most sought-after colleges in India. This affiliated college is recognised by NAAC besides providing a number of different courses in arts, commerce stream, as well as computer applications. Located on large 16.56-acre land, the college has a total student population capacity of fifteen hundred and thirty-four students and a faculty population of sixty-nine. MES College provides education in the field of Arts, Commerce, Science, Computer Applications, Post graduation, and Doctorate in Shipping & Logistics Management, for which total 9 courses are offered through 7 degrees.
Facilities that foster the learning of the students have also been developed across the college. The T.B. Cunha Library, dedicated to a freedom fighter, has rare books in French, Portuguese & English with a total 40195 volumes. The library system is fully automated with New Gen Library Management Software and also fitted with CCTV cameras. It also has well-equipped laboratories for practical experiences student’s, a well-equipped modern gymnasium, and vast sporting facilities such as basketball and volleyball courts, among others. For technology-enhanced education, the institution has 109 computers and 37 laptops power-packed with latest hardware and software connected in a network and enabled with wireless fidelity technology. The college uses a Learning Management System Called MOODLE and provides NPTEL online Course Links to improve the condition of their teaching and learning environment.
MES College of Arts and Commerce provides education in a wide selection of courses. The institute offers six undergraduate programmes, two postgraduate programmes, and two doctorate programmes. Undergraduate programmes are a range of degree courses for which students complete a total of 180 credits and currently comprise the Bachelor of Arts (BA), the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), the Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA), the Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), and a Shipping and Logistics-focused BBA programme. At the postgraduate level, the students can take up M.Com. and MA in English. For students with interest in research, the college provides degrees of Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology and in Economics. Every course is day-time, which will guarantee the quality and intensity of the process. As much as the number of students to be admitted to these courses is not quantified, the M.Com. programme has an admission quota of 30 students.
The admission process implemented at MES College of Arts and Commerce is elaborate and follows equity from the admission point of view. As for the choice of most undergraduates’ programmes, it is made depending on the results of the 12th grade exams. However, for other professional programmes such as BBA and BBA in Shipping & Logistics, the mentioned college complies with a more strict admission procedure. This includes reviewing the 12th standard marks with 60% marks weightage and then doing an online interview with 40% marks weightage.

BA
(A) To be eligible for admission to semester I of the three-year course leading to the Degree of Bachelor of Arts, the candidate should have passed:
- (i) Higher Secondary School Certificate (Std. XII) Examination conducted by Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education in any stream, including vocational stream in the subjects notified by the Goa University from time to time.
- OR
- (ii) Std. XII (Arts) or similar examination of another body, equivalent to Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Goa, and recognized as such by Goa University.
MA English
A candidate who has passed a Bachelor's degree of 3 years duration (B.A. or equivalent) under a 10+2+3 pattern from any recognized university.
Ph.D Sociology
- Master’s Degree holders satisfying the criteria stipulated under Clause 2 above.
- Candidates who have cleared the M.Phil. course work with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever the grading system is followed) and completing the M.Phil. Degree shall be eligible to proceed to do research work leading to the Ph. D. Degree in the same Institution in an integrated program. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC(non-creamy layer)/differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
- A person whose M.Phil. dissertation has been evaluated and the viva voce is pending may be admitted to the Ph.D. program of the same Institution.
- Candidates possessing a Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized, or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. program.
Ph.D Economics
- Master’s Degree holders satisfying the criteria stipulated under Clause 2 above.

M.Com
- Candidates must pass the Bachelor of Commerce Degree examination of Goa University or any other recognized university with a minimum of 45% marks.
- Candidates must pass the Entrance Examination conducted by Goa University.
- Admission is based on the ranking at the Entrance Examination conducted by Goa University
- A candidate admitted for Semester–I shall be deemed eligible for admission to Semester II.
BCA
The candidate should have passed:
- (i) The Higher Secondary School Certificate (Std. XII) examination conducted by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education in any stream, including the vocational stream in the subjects notified by the University from time to time.
- OR
- (ii) The Std XII or similar examination of another body equivalent to Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Goa, and recognized as such by Goa University.
- (B) A candidate not covered under any of the above categories but desirous of seeking admission to the said course may apply to the College. However, the Registrar along with the Dean of the Faculty and the Chairperson of the Board of Studies shall decide the eligibility.
- (C) A candidate admitted to Semester I shall be deemed eligible for admission to Semester II.
- (D) A candidate migrating from another recognized University and desirous of direct admission to Semester II may be considered for admission provided he/she has cleared/ passed the Semester-I examination of that University with those subjects, under CBCS, for which admission is sought.
- (E) A candidate shall be selected based on an entrance test. The entrance test shall assess the general aptitude, logical reasoning and analytical abilities, and basic arithmetical skills of the candidate.
BBA
The candidate should have passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate (Std. XII) examination in any stream, including the Vocational stream from a recognized board.
