This hundred-year-old institution was founded as long ago as in the year 1950 and has been moulding young minds of women into gracious ladies for over 70 long years. Prasanna Deb Women's College, Jalpaiguri - fondly called PDWC - is the torchbearer of higher education among women in West Bengal. The college is located at the heart of Jalpaiguri on Club Road, spreading over an area of 5.43 acres with a serene and congenial atmosphere to learn. This affiliated college offers 18 varieties of courses under 5 degree programs to reach a total of 3,827 students touching upon their goal. It has a faculty strength of 73 dedicated teachers.
All of which work in concert to provide holistic education, it boasts of multifaceted facilities. The library is a powerhouse of learning and has a gigantic collection of books totalling about 31,000. These include not only the time-honoured texts but also contemporary references. It also subscribes to peer-reviewed national and international journals, thereby proving to be a premier resource for students and faculty alike. There is a quiet room seating 60 people for studying, supplemented by six computer terminals offering access to the internet. Well-equipped laboratories are available for practical learning for students majoring in science courses. The good IT infrastructure demonstrates embracing technology, equipping the students of the college with all aspects required for living in this digital age.
The courses available in PDWC are different courses in arts and sciences. The college has 18 full-time courses, including BA (Hons) in Bengali, English, History, Political Science, and Sanskrit, with an intake capacity of 105 students in each.
