The college was established in 1956 and is located in Shillong – the capital of the northeaster Indian state – Meghalaya. This affiliated college occupies a small area of 4.32 acres and has been imparting education for more than six decades. Comprising of 3,154 students and a faculty of 139 members, the college is able to deliver 27 courses under 8 degree programmes. We are glad to inform you that our institution Shillong College has got accreditation from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) a verification of quality education.
Shillong College also has a great list of facilities that are aimed at improving the learning process as a whole of the learners. The main library is regarded as the core of the learning community and stocks books and printed and electronic reference materials in nearly 23 areas of study. It fulfils not only the academic requirements of the students and faculties but also has numerous encyclopaedas, dictionaries, almanacs and specialized North East collection. The college is fortunate to have facilities for accommodation for students with needs and these include both male and female hostels each with 22 rooms with the ability to house 70 students each. They come with areas that are accessible by all students and are equipped with security cameras as well as emergency facilities such as staircase well for fire escapes. The college also pays major attention to the health of its needy students as it has a health centre that offers first aid services, the college also boasts of a well equipped gymnasium controlled by professional trainers.
Currently, the complete package of Shillong College includes 27 courses. full-time undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The institution offers both traditional and professional courses spread from BA, B.Sc having several options to BBA, BCA. At post graduate level, the college holds Masters in Arts Education with specialisation in English and Khasi languages.
The admission process implemented by Shillong College also ensure that is a holistic and merit-based admission process. In general, for the undergraduate programmes the college takes into account the candidate’s academic achievements in the 10+2 examinations. The problems, especially those of MA in English and Khasi, are comparatively more stringent in terms of admission criteria.
