Silchar Polytechnic is one of the premier technical institutions in Silchar, Assam and was established in 1960. This affiliated college, with its campus of 36.9 acres in Meherpur, Silchar, Assam, has been shaping aspiring engineers for more than six decades with a spirit of excellence. This institution was approved by AICTE, New Delhi, and at present offers four diploma programmes based on different engineering streams. This institute has a total student enrolment of 606 students with a faculty strength of 20 to provide a congenial atmosphere for technical education.
Students at Silchar Polytechnic will gain from a variety of facilities set up to improve their learning process. The institute also has well-equipped laboratories for each department, which provides practical training that is essential in the making of budding engineers. A comprehensive library acts as a knowledge hub with its vast accumulation of textbooks, periodicals, and journals on various technical and non-technical subjects. The Computer Cell, comprising 25 computers and internet facilities, offers high-level trainings in software like AutoCAD, thus keeping the students abreast of the latest technologies. The institution also provides sports facilities and a gym in the interests of the physical well-being of its students. This campus houses both boys' and girls' hostels, comfortable for the outstation students. In addition, a canteen, auditorium, and guest rooms provide an amenable surroundings while studying.
Silchar Polytechnic offers four full-time diploma courses, each spanning three years. Based on different streams of engineering, these programmes offer a wide range of career opportunities for students at large.

The admission process is very easy at Silchar Polytechnic and purely based on merit. Prospective students have to appear for and qualify in the Polytechnic Admission Test conducted by the State Council for Technical Education, Assam. The date for this entrance examination is usually announced by the Directorate of Technical Education, Assam, and shall be conducted once every year. The PAT is the general entry point of admission to all the diploma courses affiliated with the institute.
