SMDRSD College of Education, Pathankot, was established in year 1998 and it is one of the well known teacher training college situated in Punjab , India. This co-educational college is a small college with an area of 1.923 acres of campus and an affiliated college approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The college provides two programmes in education and the total intake of the students across the college courses is 250. At present, SMDRSD College of Education has officially 18 teaching faculties so the college has moderate student-teacher ratio which guarantees individual approach

SMDRSD College of Education has many facilities which are intended to facilitate learning of students. A good library plays an important role as information centre containing relevant materials for would-be teachers. The campus includes facilities such as a health centre with first aid and needs-a-shrink services to cater to its community. To support this, the college avails itself to sporting activities and an auditorium for cultural and academic practices. Technological facilities of the institution facilitates the contemporary approaches in teaching as the laboratories for practice. Onsite a cafeteria has been provided whose responsibility is to meet all the food requirements of the students as well as the staff.

There are two regular courses in the field of education being proffered by the SMDRSD College of Education. This is the main programme of the institution is the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed). In addition, the college offers the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) . B.Ed programme takes two years while the other also preparing students to be good teachers also takes two years of study. The total enrolment of the college fits into its intake capacity of 250 students, meaning that the college is thoroughly subscribed and fully functional.

SMDRSD College of Education conducts admission in a way that makes sure that it selects the right candidates for its various programmes. The B.Ed course is offered on merit basis where students are admitted through marks gained in the qualifying examination and/or entrance examination in accordance with the guidelines of the state government and the university to which the college is affiliated with. The D.El.Ed programme also comes under merit based on admission process. The college has a Training and Placement Cell which helps the students to attain their career goals providing them information regarding guest lecturers and selecting places for both Govt. and private organisations.
