Sonapur College, Kamrup is affiliated to Gauhati University. The college was established in  1991. The College offers Higher secondary, B.A. and B.Com. degree courses in 13 major disciplines. The College has also started M.A programmes in Assamese and Geography. UGC has granted the status of the DDU KAUSHAL Kendra to Sonapur College and has approved  Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc) Programmes, namely Retail Management & IT, Theatre & Stage Craft and Tourism & Travel Management under the Scheme of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Centre for Knowledge Acquisition and Upgradation of Skilled Human Abilities and Livelihood (DDU KAUSHAL) of UGC. 

Location: Sonapur College, Kamrup is located at Mandal, Sonapur, Assam. The nearest railway junction to the College is Kamakhya Junction and the nearest bus depot is Panjabari Bus Stand, which is 38 km and 24 km away from the College respectively. Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is about 50 km from the College.

Clubs and Committees:

Internal Complaints Committee (ICC): ICC committee of Sonapur College constituted every year in order to cater to problems of students. Students can bring various issues. The committee also provides a feedback system in place which provides a channel to students for reporting their grievance or giving any suggestion.

Women's Grievance Redressal Cell: This cell of Sonapur College is committed to the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women and takes active steps towards gender sensitisation and elimination of sexual harassment.

Internal Quality Assurance Cell: The aim of IQAC is to plan, guide, and monitor Quality Assurance and Quality Enhancement activities of the Institution. 

Anti Ragging Committee: Anti-Ragging Committee of  Sonapur College ensures there is no ragging happening on the campus and takes strict action against those who are found guilty.

Entrepreneurial Cell: This cell of Sonapur College promotes entrepreneurship among students and offers various information with reference to starting a business to budding student entrepreneurs. The cell regularly organizes camps, seminars, workshops, industrial visits and other developmental programmes.

Alumni Association: This association of Sonapur College is dedicated to advancing innovation and technological excellence for the benefit of humanity.

NSS: NSS wings of Sonapur College conduct a variety of activities, such as orphanage visits, awareness programs and health camps. In addition, the NSS holds annual camps in a rural location, where students assist the residents in the development of their village.

NCC: NCC Cadet Crop of the Sonapur College fortifies character, command and discipline among the students. It provides framing for a career in the forces. NCC wing organises and trains youth and provides leadership in all walks of life including the armed and navy forces. It also creates a suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up a career in the armed forces.
