Sri Manakula Vinayagar Polytechnic College was started in the year 2011 in Kalihteerthalkuppan, Madagadipet, Puducherry. This affiliated college is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), which offered good technical education. Situated on an area of 5 acres, the institute has a total of four diploma programmes enrolment of students 332. At present, the college has a total of 71 members on the faculty side and has a reasonable student-faculty ratio. As a technical education-orientated college, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Polytechnic College has a mission to provide the student with appropriate skills and knowledge to make sure successful employment in the field of engineering and technology.
Sri Manakula Vinayagar Polytechnic College is devoted to allowing the students to get broad exposure to various opportunities and facilities. It is advantageous in this respect that students have their own hostel arrangements for male and female with their respective warden to enforce discipline and create a conducive atmosphere. The library is an intellectual resource centre that provides literature in the form of books, journals, and other electronic materials for learning purposes.
To improve the interest of the learners in sporting activities, there are facilities for outdoor and indoor games and sports, a gymnasium, and courts. The campus operates on Wi-Fi; hence, the students avail internet connectivity whenever they need it. Also, it has equipped modern laboratories, a computer laboratory with the latest multimedia and networking systems for practical purposes.
Sri Manakula Vinayagar Polytechnic College currently provides four diploma courses. These programmes are available for different branches of engineering and give students numerous career opportunities. The authorised intake for all the courses is five hundred and eighty, which gives the institute the ability to develop many young engineers. The courses are Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical, Electronics and Communication, and Computer Engineering.

The admission policy of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Polytechnic College is friendly to the students who are willing to join this college. Polytechnic colleges often admit students according to scores received in the corresponding qualifying tests. The college focuses on every rounded development, where the students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular activities, inter-college seminars, etc. It aids in creating customer-service-orientated and versatile employees capable of handling the dynamic situation in any organisation.
To facilitate the coordination between academic sessions and the corporate world, the college has set up a Training and Placement Cell. Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- The candidates who passed X Standard or equivalent examinations with English, Mathematics, and Science subjects are eligible for admission into Polytechnic Colleges.
- There is no age restriction to join the Diploma Courses.
- Students from other states may be considered for admission as per the regulations and guidelines laid down by the Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu. Admissions will be made as per the instructions of the Government of Tamil Nadu from time to time.
- Candidates for admission with a three-year Diploma shall be required to have passed the 10th S.S.L.C Examination either in Samachar Kalvi, CBSE, International Board of School Studies, or any other course recognized by any State Government qualifying for Higher Education.
- If the Candidate comes under private study shall also be eligible to join a 3-year Diploma by they should submit compulsorily previous standard Transfer Certificate (If they appeared in X std Examination in a private stream they should submit IX std T.C)
Lateral Entry Admission:
For Lateral Entry into the Second year (third semester) of the three-year diploma courses, the candidates shall be required to have passed the Higher Secondary Examination (Academic or Vocational) of 10 plus 2 pattern, with the following conditions :
- Academic Stream candidates should have compulsorily studied Maths, Physics, and chemistry at 10 + 2 level.
- Vocational Stream candidates should have studied either Maths or Physics or Chemistry as one of the subjects of study along with the related Vocational Subject (Theory and Practical) at 10 + 2 level.
- HSC / 10 the std with 2 years ITI students can directly join the second year of the three-year Diploma Program.
- There is no age limit for admission.
