Being an autonomous college, St. Mary's College, Thoothukudi, was established in 1948. Located on a large 14 acre campus, the institute is a women’s college. It is affiliated with Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli and also has the NAAC accreditation.The college has 3195 students enrolled along with 130 dedicated faculty members, thus making an ideal student-teacher ratio. St. Mary's College offers 36 courses in diverse fields of study.
St. Mary's College promotes a wide range of amenities to aid and regulate the overall development of students. The library acts as a reservoir and contains reference books, journals, newspapers, and other e-resources. Taking into account the physical health of students, the college has a large gymnasium and other sports facilities. The department laboratories, on the other hand, impart hands-on learning. Other facilities include a hostel for out-station students, a canteen, and a guest house for visiting faculties or families of students.
The college provides students with their desired programmes in various streams like Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management. At present, a total of 36 courses are offered at both UG and PG level. At the undergraduate level, there are B.Com and BBA Self Finance courses. BA and B.Sc programmes have various specialisations like English, Zoology, Botany, and Economics. For post graduation, there are MA, M.Sc, M.Phil, M.Com and MHRM Self Finance programmes.
