St Xavier’s College, Ahmedabad was established in 1955 as a Jesuit College. It provides quality education to students and gained autonomous status from the UGC. St Xavier's College, Ahmedabad has been recognised as a "College with Potential for Excellence" since 2006. 

The college is affiliated with Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. SXCA offers Government-aided and self-financed programmes in Arts, Science, Commerce, and Computer Science. Xavier's College Ahmedabad offers various courses at the UG level, such as BA, B.Com, B.Sc, BA (Hons), and BCA. Additionally, the postgraduate courses at SXCA consist of MA and M.Sc courses in 10 different disciplines. For admission to St Xavier’s Ahmedabad scores of the previous qualifying examination (class 12/graduation) are considered. The placement cell of SXCA oversees all the placement-related activities.

The campus life of SXCA helps students in many ways and offers ICT, sports, medical and other facilities. The Gujarat State Institutional Rating Framework (GSIRF) consistently awards Xavier with 'Five Stars'. In terms of rankings for 2022, India Today ranks the college 22nd in Arts,13th in BCA, and 30th in Science. Outlook ranks it 26th in Arts, 10th in BCA, and 22nd in Science. The Week ranks it 28th in Arts and 25th in Science.
