Synod College Shillong, established in 1965, is one of the oldest educational institution located Jaiaw, Lumdiengjri, Shillong, Meghalaya. This affiliated college, established in a campus area of 4 acres, has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It has 3,190 students and a faculty of 84. The college offer 20 courses under 7-degree programme. The college is consciously multi-disciplinary and multi-faceted, with diverse course specialisations in arts, sciences, commerce and computer applications to fulfil the educational requirements of all kinds.
Thus, Synod College provides its students with a great number of facilities that are aimed at improving the process of learning. college library play affirmative role in delivering its services as a Learning Resource centre, which comprises a collection of books, journals and magazines supervised by a professional librarian. Regarding practical assignment, the following facilities are offered for the student as departmental-based laboratories. The college campus also includes an auditorium for various occasion and seminars which inspire the academic environment of the college. The cafeteria will be comfortable and tidy with various delicious dishes and students could discuss important issues. The college also provides sports facilities and gymnasium to ensure students get the bodily part of the development as well. In the same way, Synod College has a good information technology centre that keeps the students updated of the current technology.
Currently, the Synod College has provided different courses of study as elaborated below to give a total of 20 courses. The admission process at Synod College is quite simple and mainly credential-based. They are usually open and admitted based on a first-come, first-served basis, depending on the past performance of the applicant. This measure helps to provide worthy students with a chance to enrol in programmes they prefer or need to find a job in. The college has facilities for boys and girls both hostels but they are very limited and are mostly for the Degree Honours Courses students only.
