It is established in 1989 as a constituent college of Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune, Maharashtra. As a co-educational institution, the school works towards spreading knowledge in public health and health sciences. Spread over a sprawling campus of 411 acres, the school offers varied specialised programs in response to the growing demand for skilled professionals in the health sector. The school has a faculty strength of 5 members, and it provides students interested in pursuing a career in public health and related areas with a focused learning environment.
At the training levels, the students are afforded well-equipped computer laboratories in epidemiology and biostatistics; there are also research laboratories for biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, and nutrition. The campus boasts of facilities such as event and seminar auditoriums, libraries that stock well-represented materials, sports facilities to strike a balance between study and other activities of life. For lodging purposes, there is strictly merit-based assignment between boys' and girls' hostels. There is a health centre with primary health facility care for the students.
Academic programs of the School of Public Health and Health Sciences The school offers four full-time programs spread out over three degree levels. These are two master's level programs: MPH and M.Sc. in Health Sciences, and two doctoral degree programs. Ph.D. in Health Sciences and Ph.D. in Public Health. Each program endeavours to equip the students with the knowledge and skills with which to deal with the complex health issues of today. Research and practical application, in particular, are manifested in the course structures that provide theoretical knowledge together with hands-on experience in all courses offered.

Ph.D Public Health
Master’s Degree holders satisfying the criteria stipulated under Clause 2 above.
Candidates who have cleared the M.Phil. course work with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and successfully completing the M.Phil. Degree shall be eligible to proceed to do research work leading to the Ph. D. Degree in the same Institution in an integrated program. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC(non-creamy layer)/differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
A person whose M.Phil. dissertation has been evaluated and the viva voce is pending may be admitted to the Ph.D. program of the same Institution. Candidates possessing a Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. program.
M.Sc Health Sciences
The candidate who has pass B.Sc. in any subject including life sciences, nursing, Degree in any branch of Medicine or Pharmacy from any statutory University or recognized as equivalent thereto by the Savitribai Phule Pune University.
