Manipal University’s WGSHA is a constituent college in Manipal, Karnataka, established in 1986. This reputed institute is also called WGSHA Manipal and has set its focus and place in the field of hospitality education. With 641.81 acres of land, WGSHA provides for five distinctive courses in hospitality and culinary arts. It has a student strength of 1391 pupils, and the faculty covers 53 members of teaching staff, and this student/teacher ratio provides personal care and better learning. WGSHA believes in maintaining the highest standards in each of its offerings through curriculum, infrastructure, and programmes that align with the industry.
It has a wonderful list of facilities, all aimed at ensuring that the student gets the best learning experience. The campus facilities include fast connectivity to the internet to allow students to undertake online searches. WGSHA currently has a well-stocked library with books, CD-ROMs, project reports, DVDs, and other electronic resources available for students in hotel management and allied industries. Labs at the institute are spacious and well furnished for different departments and serve multi-purpose needs. The IT infrastructure is specifically remarkable, with over one hundred smart PCs with LAN & Internet facilities and other specific package installations like Opera, Diet Cal, multimedia tools, etc. for academic use. To support the culinary artists of tomorrow and hospitality industry managers, WGSHA has equipped its kitchens and training restaurants with contemporary equipment. The institute also maintains adequate hostels for boys and girls with all the modern facilities for an effective living and learning environment.
In all, WGSHA now offers five full-time courses, turning out both undergraduate and postgraduate degree holders. These programmes are offered hoping to cover the challenges experienced in the hospitality industry and the culinary field. The programmes include the applauded BHM, BA Culinary Arts, MHM, M.Sc Dietetics & Applied Nutrition, and MA Indian Cuisine and Food Culture. Each programme and course is designed to integrate both the delivery of theoretical and vocationally based education so that students may have the appropriate skills to succeed in their professional endeavours.

A very selective criterion is followed in WGSHA for admission into these courses; hence, only deserving candidates can make it to these programmes. For other undergrad graduate programmes such as BHM and BA Culinary Arts, the entry is merit-based. Some of the programmes admit students based on scores obtained on the Manipal Entrance Test, abbreviated as MET. The MHM, M.Sc. Dietetics and Applied Nutrition and MA Indian Cuisine and Food Culture relevant postgraduate courses have more options of selection. This usually consists of an online form and then a physical interview. The last merit list is made after the qualifying test and the interview conducted for all the candidates applying for the post.

- Minimum requirement is an average of ‘D’ grade.

MA Indian Cuisine and Food Culture
Pass with a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized University, with minimum 45 % aggregate marks or equivalent.

Pass with a Bachelor’s degree in Home Science / Nutrition / Dietetics / Food Science / Biology / Microbiology / Clinical Biochemistry / Life Sciences / Sports & Exercise Science / BNYS (Naturopathy) / BAMS (Ayurveda) / BUMS (Unani) / BHMS (Homeopathy) / MBBS / PG Diploma in Dietetics (after Bachelor Degree) and, other Health Science and Allied Health Science courses, with any of these subjects as majors, from a recognized University, with minimum 50% aggregate marks or equivalent.
